The J. Willard and Alice S. Marriot Foundation have committed RMB40,500,000 (USD6,000,000) to create the Marriot China Hospitality Education Initiative (CHEI) which aims to develop hospitality training by offering it’s China-centric portfolio of recourses and practical experiences to 10-12 pilot schools across China. The CHEI has previously seen success–since its start in 2013–with its faculty internships, hotel field trips, research grants and hospitality curricula, much of which has been developed in conjunction with the San Diego State University
CHEI’s summer faculty internship program–starting this July–will see more than 30 teachers from schools across China placed into various hotel departments to gain real-world career experience; a further 3 teachers will travel later this year to hospitality schools in the United States as CHEI fellows. CHEI hopes to expand their staff training to reach 20,000 students over the next 5 years.
