Jen Flowers, Global Head of Strategy & Business Management, Partnerships & Innovation, Retail Banking and Wealth Management, HSBC
With International Women’s Day coming up, Jen Flowers, Global Head of Strategy & Business Management, Partnerships & Innovation, Retail Banking and Wealth Management, HSBC shares her insight on women in digital. Not only does Jen win the award for possibly the longest job title in the world but, more importantly, she comments on the growing trend of women making there mark in digital, especially in financial services.
Flowers noted,“Right now is an exciting time to build a career in technology. It is not just tech start-ups who are hiring–digitisation and advanced data analytics are creating important opportunities for Asian banks, making banks hungry for digital skills. But far fewer women than men are joining the profession. Less than 20 per cent of technology jobs in the US were held by women in 2019, for instance. This has to change–and not just because businesses benefit from diversity, and economies need more technical skills. It is also important for society to have a broad range of viewpoints in a profession that plays an ever more central role in our lives." She added, "The industry as a whole has much to do, but as banks disrupt themselves for the digital age - as we rapidly grow our digital capabilities and explore new ways of interacting with customers–the opportunity is here and now for finance firms like HSBC to help close the gender gap in technology.”
