Many companies have felt the impact of the historic levels of resignation that have swept the working world by storm, and it shows no signs of slowing down. According to the latest statistics from the U.S. Bureau of Labor, more Americans than ever before quit their jobs in March.
A record 4.54 million workers resigned in March, representing an increase of 152,000 from February’s data. This is higher than the former record of 4.53 million held since November last year. Professional and business service companies were the most affected as well as those in the construction industry.
The resignations pushed job openings to an all time high. Current employment openings exceed the level of available workers by 5.6 million with job postings hitting 11.55 million for the month according to the Labor Department.
The increase in resignations can be attributed to many companies demanding that their employees return to the office amidst the abating pandemic. However, employees remain unhappy with their employer’s decision to force them back into the office with many workers willing to quit or look for a new job if their employer forces them to do so.
In the past year alone, more than 60 million Americans have quit their job as remote work becomes the demand of the present and not the way of the future.
