Twenty-four percent of Hong Kong professionals intend to leave their jobs within the next 12 months, citing low compensation, limited career growth opportunities and a lack of recognition, according to the Randstad Award 2015 survey.
However the survey of 7,754 employees in Hong Kong found that those under 25s are more likely to leave due to a lack of work-life balance (29 per cent) and disinterest in their jobs (29 per cent) when compared to their older colleagues.
Peter Yu, Director of Randstad Hong Kong, said the findings reflect the challenging landscape faced by employers in Hong Kong. “Not only do employers need to deal with the tight labour crunch creating a climate where workers are demanding higher wages or threatening to leave, but the diverse needs of the multi-generational workforce means that it’s more important than ever for companies to invest in their employer brands.
“As the war for talent continues, all organisations need to look at their full employee value proposition and offer benefits that appeal to every generation of workers. Otherwise, they will find their employees looking to move to companies which offer the benefits that suit their needs,” said Mr Yu.
Some employers seem to get this balance exactly right, with respondents identifying Cathay Pacific as the most attractive employer in Hong Kong. The research revealed that almost seven in ten employees expressed a desire to work for Cathay Pacific, the best-rated employer and winner of the Randstad Award 2015.
Tony Reynolds, Manager of Recruitment and Manpower Planning, Cathay Pacific Hong Kong, said, “Cathay Pacific is honoured to have been voted as the Randstad Award’s Most Attractive Employer this year.
“As Cathay Pacific continues to grow, we will continue to offer exciting opportunities for our employees to experience first-hand, and together deliver our brand promise of enabling a ‘Life well travelled’,” said Mr Reynolds.
