Research by Management Education provider CEMS has revealed that a good work-life balance is rated on par with salary as a top criterion for jobseekers. Of the more than 4,000 respondents, work-life balance and salary ranked equally across the board.
However, for professionals over the age of 35, work-life balance ranked higher than salary. On the other hand, recent graduates and younger professionals under the age of 35, ranked salary slightly higher than work-life balance. This indicates that salary is understandably an important factor.
Nicole de Fontaines, Executive Director, CEMS, commented, “Our research reveals that for professionals globally, although salary will always be an important factor, work is not all about money. Achieving a good work-life balance and getting the chance to make an impact in a role is more important than ever for employees of all ages.”
Career progress, and the chance to make an impact at an early stage also ranked highly amongst respondents of all ages. While opportunities for global travel appeared in the top five criteria for the youngest workers it was much less of a priority for other age groups who rated inspirational leadership higher up.
