A recent Inclusive Index Report by Equality Group, supported by Equilibrium has released a list of Asia Pacific’s most inclusive employers. CLP Group was named as Hong Kong’s most inclusive employer and the fourth most inclusive employer in the region. Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing came second and Hang Seng Bank third. Other companies that ranked in the top 10 include global insurance giant AIA, government-owned MTR Corporation and CK Hutchison Holdings. Overall, Hong Kong ranked fourth in the region based on the companies and countries researched.
The Inclusive Index scored companies on six core categories: leadership, actions and policies, work-life balance, inclusive team, explicit DEI support and additional public information. The criteria helped to paint a holistic picture of inclusion within organisations across nine Asia Pacific countries including Australia, Japan, Singapore, Korea and Thailand.
Australia ranked first on the inclusivity index due to the considerable gender diversity of leadership teams and clear recruitment strategies to attract underrepresented talent that companies showcased. Telstra was named as the most inclusive employer in the region as well as within Australia followed by BHP Group and ANZ Bank.
Surprisingly, Japan ranked second overall with most of the organisations studied scoring above the overall average of 50% regardless of the industry. Sony was named as the most inclusive employer in Japan followed by Mitsubishi UFJ Financial and Nippon Telegraph & Telephone.
Dr Keon West, Head of Research for Equality Group commented, “Globally, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives have become increasingly critical to organisations and has gained significant traction in APAC. However, it is imperative to understand the nuances of DEI in APAC as perceptions vary widely across cultures both in terms of the value placed, and the ways in which DEI is conceptualised.”
