MTR stations across Hong Kong were all closed recently due to massive amounts of damage caused by protesters in the region. Although some stations are reopening, many are providing a limited transport service. As of writing, thirteen stations are still completely closed with others having to close early for nighttime repairs. In the long-term, these disruptions to workers and students are likely to continue, and will undoubtedly impact the economy in the region further.
A spokesman for the Transport Department urged employers and schools to adopt a flexible approach to students and staff arriving late, and added, “Employers should make flexible work arrangements for staff having regard to their situations. This will help maintain good labour-management relations and ensure the safety of employees and the smooth operations of establishments.”
The protests in Hong Kong are entering their 19th consecutive week and are not predicted to end soon.
