60% of people prefer to work from home in the near future, with 27% open to a part-time model for the foreseeable future. This, according to a June 2020 survey by FormAssembly, that looked at people working from home to gauge their appetite for returning to a physical office. The survey also revealed that 81% of staff are now spending one to three hours per day on video meetings, with 16% spending over four hours a day on apps like Google Meet, Skype, Slack, Teams, Webex and Zoho and Zoom.
Respondents outlined key aspects of their workday including time spent on video calls, new communication tool uses, and altered schedules, as well as the top ways to maintain a corporate culture in a remote working environment. Increasingly, the move back to the office is being seen as a matter of if, not when, with permanent WFH options on the horizon for many firms.
Keeping its crown as the flavour of the moment, Zoom remains the most popular video meeting tool, favoured by 80% of respondents, and for general remote communication, Slack and Microsoft Teams come in at second and third respectively. Close on the mind of many organisations is how to keep their company culture intact through the pandemic. Emerging trends are for virtual events such as coffee talk sessions, happy hours and virtual group activities ranging from art lessons to baking.
