Following record high financial and business results in fiscal 2013, Hong Kong Broadband Network (HKBN) announced generous bonus payouts to its employees, or rather Talents, averaging 2 months and reaching up to 4.5 for outstanding performers.
NiQ Lai, Head of Talent Engagement & CFO, HKBN commented, “At HKBN we think differently. Whereas most companies look to minimise salary, we look to optimise it. In general, we like to pay 125% of market rate to attract the best Talents but expect outstanding performance.”
Built on the philosophy that Talents are family, the organisation also provides two sets of free career-lifetime telecom service to all its 2,500 Talents, one for personal use and one for family or friends. This even applies to employees based in Guangzhou, who are allowed to pass on the benefits to their family or friends living in Hong Kong.
Initiatives such as ‘Early Friday-off at 4pm’ once every month and no meetings after 2pm on these set days, as well as no work emails during weekends—except for customer time sensitive issues—also aim to ensure staff maintain a good work-life balance and are fully recharged.
Ivy Lau, Director, Talent Engagement, HKBN added, “HKBN’s unique competitive advantage—our 79 Co-Owner-Managers—ensures that we run our own company with our heart and soul. Here we aim at sustainable business growth via a happy, highly engaged and productive workforce.”
