Peter Craughwell, Head of Marketing and Communications at the English Schools Foundation (ESF) in Hong Kong, says Skype video calling has enriched his organisation’s recruitment process.
“Our HR department chose Skype as an alternative to video conferencing, which is not always available and sometimes unreliable” said Craughwell. “Skype video-calling slipped easily into a spectrum of communications we already used.” Craughwell added, “Skype enriches our recruitment process and adds more opportunities.”
Looking at the customer care and branding upside to the use of Skype, Craughwell added, “What does this say about our brand? That we’re innovative, and we’re prepared to meet you halfway and make the experience as hassle-free as possible.”
Another benefit of Skype is that because it makes it easier to have visual contact earlier in the recruitment process, it is easier to identify and remember promising candidates. Making eye contact can help break down barriers. “It can be quite hard for people to relax doing a phone interview, especially if they’re struggling for the right words or to get their point across,” and “The visuals and body language are useful in an interview situation.”
