According to HR Magazine’s recent poll on LinkedIn, over half of HR professionals (55%) believe that employees should be required to be on-site once or twice a week. Almost 700 HR professionals across the globe participated in our LinkedIn poll where we pondered whether employees should have to return to the office.
Just over a quarter of respondents felt as though employees should be in the office between three to four times a week, perhaps to ensure that companies are getting a good return on investing in a physical office space.
Yet, twelve per cent of participants felt that employees should not be required to be on-site at all and that their jobs should be fully remote. However, as one of the commentators noted, “It depends on the needs, industries and role as they could make a difference.”
Respondents were least likely to demand a full-time return to the office with only 7% feeling that way. Those who did choose this option had strong opinions with some stating that employees “Need to get back in the workplace and deliver on our commitments and obligations to the organisations we operate in.”
With opinions divided, the ultimate decision on a return to the office comes down to a number of factors and HR should take into consideration both the needs of the employees and the business before mandating a company-wide return.
