Five Burger King Restaurants in Hong Kong have shut down after incurring heavy debts. The owners, Perfect Combo Ltd, were thought to have racked up debts of nearly HKD 20 million in unpaid wages and store rents.
The Labour Department confirmed that the employees are applying for help in regards to the wages owed to them while pointing out that not paying wages on time is a criminal offence in Hong Kong. Since 2014, more than 10,000 landlords have filed lawsuits against the company for unpaid store rents totally HKD 17 million. The department said they are trying to contact the owners over these scandals.
