In Hong Kong, almost a third (31%) feel that identifying themselves as LGBTQ+ could harm their development and career prospects. This according to a recent survey by Axa Asia covering employees in Hong Kong, the Philippines, Japan and Thailand. The Survey found that Hong Kong companies rated poorly in advancing education on LGBTQ+ diversity, equality and inclusion issues compared to efforts in gender and race topics.
Only 16% of respondents admitted to coming out to their colleagues. By contrast, nearly two-thirds of employees surveyed in the Philippines had come out to colleagues, and felt that their openness had helped their progress and improved their relationships with colleagues.
Gordon Watson, CEO, Axa Asia said, "Companies in Asia seeking to thrive in a post-pandemic world must enable staff to bring their whole selves to work if they are to attract, nurture and retain the best talent in times of change."
