The American Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong (AmCham) welcomed the Chief Executive’s announcement to withdraw the extradition bill, and is pleased to see a government response striving to meet public expectations to end the ongoing crisis.
Robert Grieves, AmCham Chairman, said, “Withdrawing the bill is an important first step to restore business confidence and the city’s international reputation. We believe an enhanced inquiry via the Independent Police Complaints Council to look into the events since June is a positive step ahead.”
“AmCham remains confident that Hong Kong will remain Asia’s leading business hub if timely and concerted efforts are made to resume normality of life. We look forward to more dialogue and closer collaboration with the government on this,” Grieves added.
