The AmCham 2017 Human Resources Conference kicked off a discussion about innovation in Hong Kong, with speakers from the HR, consulting and legal fields, among others.
Keynote speaker Kate Bravery, Global Practices Leader, Career, Mercer began by speaking about HR’s future. Of particular note, she commented, “HR leaders need to become organisational mindset coaches.” In her mind, it’s clear that HR needs to evolve in order to thrive and needs to drive in the same direction as organisational leaders.
Bravery also touched on retention and the frameworks that keep people engaged within an organisation. Across APAC, employees value career development more than anything else, although this alone is rarely enough. A blended system that incorporates trust, transparency and agility is most effective, and organisations that can build a passion for innovation in their workforces by developing a ‘lab’ mentality of experimentation tend to produce the best results. Flexibility is also key, and Bravery called on HR to look more closely at the individual needs of employees in order to build the best workforce.
Beyond this, the Conference featured sessions on innovation, AI, the global mindset and the evolving role of the expat in Hong Kong, allowing participants to share ideas and build consensus.
