The Hong Kong government recently released the 2011-2012 Budget in which it earmarked close to HKD 2 billion for the Vocational Training Centre (VTC) to meet the demand for training courses. To help jobseekers, the Government also launched the Pilot Employment Navigator Programme in late 2010. Budgeted to last two years, the Programme aims to provide employment counselling and job matching services to some 11,000 jobseekers each year. After jobseekers have secured employment and worked for three continuous months, they will receive a cash incentive of HKD 5,000.
Towards the end of 2011, the Labour Department will also set up an employment and training centre in Tin Shui Wai to provide better employment targeted services, while offering a central location for the integrated services of the Learning Department, Educational Retraining Board and the Social Welfare Bureau.
