LinkedIn, the global online professional network with over 347 million members, announced at the beginning of March that it had passed the one-million-members mark in Hong Kong. This member milestone indicates that over half of Hong Kong professionals consider LinkedIn to be the preferred professional network. Including Hong Kong, LinkedIn’s member base in APAC is now over 64 million

The finance industry within Hong Kong continues to dominate, with 70 of the world's top 100 banks having a presence in Hong Kong. Professionals and businesses within Hong Kong’s financial sector have ingrained LinkedIn in their professional lives, utilising its networking opportunities, up-to-date insights, influencer advice and tools to establish their professional brand.
The top skills of Hong Kong professionals being endorsed on LinkedIn include ‘financial reporting’, ‘budgets’, ‘team building’, ‘process improvement’ and ‘team leadership’.
Within the top followed company pages on LinkedIn, the financial sector continues to lead, with six of the top ten pages representing the finance industry, including pages of HSBC, J.P Morgan, Standard Chartered Bank, Citi, Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley. Given the finance sector’s entrenched presence in Hong Kong, and the sector’s appeal to professionals the sector may continue to dominate the city’s professional landscape, in fact LinkedIn’s recent Life of a Professional study revealed that nearly 15% of mid-career professionals claimed the finance industry is their dream industry to be working in.
