As many fresh graduates are soon entering the job market, Adecco recently surveyed 300 students from various universities in Hong Kong to discover what these new talents expect. The survey found that the fresh graduates’ average expected monthly salary increased by 10% compared to the 2010 survey. Fresh graduates now expect their monthly salary to range from $10,000 to $15,000 depending on their major. Students with majors related to government and science expect the highest salary range, from $15,000 to $20,000. Among the major universities, students from the City University of Hong Kong have the highest average expected monthly salary: $13,000.
When fresh graduates are selecting their desired employers, they look at remuneration package, career development and size of the company. Just over a third of fresh graduates expect their remuneration package to include a year-end bonus and a medical plan. Fresh graduates ranked training, 47%, as the most important consideration, followed by promotion opportunities, 30%; and continuing education allowance, 23%. Over one-third of fresh graduates surveyed prefer to work in companies with at least 100 employees.
