‘HR is not what it should be in terms of a model that someone could point to and say that this is truly a profession.’ - Ron Pilenzo, President & chief operating officer, 1980-1991
The Society for Human Resource Management’s (SHRM) former and current presidents are working together to address administration issues within the company. As one of the largest human resources companies in the world, it is considered by many to be ‘the voice’ of HR and is discussing the future of the industry as a legitimate profession.
These leaders feel there are too many entering the HR field who are not qualified to do the jobs they are employed for. The Society is hoping to make changes to the structure of HR and its policies and put the HR profession on par with other models, such as American Bar Association (ABA), American Medical Association (AMA), the accounting profession and the engineering field.
