Starbucks has launched a new programme that offers to partially fund degree courses for its employees in the United States. Working in partnership with Arizona State University, the programme will be offered to an estimated 135,000 employees within the company who work 20 hours a week. Employees taking part in the programme, however, are under no obligation to stay with the organisation once their degree is complete.
Starbucks is said to be phasing out its current programme, which offers up to USD 1,000 reimbursement a year with certain education programmes, in favour of this new and more substantial one. Whilst it is unclear how many employees would be eligible for the programme or how much it would cost the company, the coffee chain is currently in negotiations with Arizona State University and further announcements will be made shortly.
