The Executive Council recently endorsed a salary cut of around HK$2,000 a month for graduates who joined the civil after 1 October.
The move will affect civil servants in 36 ranks, and will reduce their monthly salaries by around 10%, saving the Government HK$10 million a year. Those affected include assistant police research officers, court interpreters, computer programmers, hospital administrators, speech therapists, assistant information officers and teachers in subsidised schools. Final approval for the pay cuts should be granted by LEGCO before its summer recess in July.
