Tokyo has been knocked off the top spot in the list of the world’s most expensive cities for expatriates and now lies in sixth place in the global rankings, according to the latest cost of living research by ECA International. Tokyo has been replaced by Oslo, Norway, and has also been overtaken by the Angolan capital of Luanda and Moscow, Russia.
Meanwhile, Hong Kong slipped slightly to 38th position—and is currently in 10th place in Asia—down from last year’s 37th spot.
Lee Quane, ECA’s Regional Director, Asia commented, “Tokyo has always been an expensive place for global companies to send staff, and, despite its five-place fall since last year, that remains the case.”
