In an attempt to better utilize local manpower and reduce unemployment, the Government announced a series of measure to help support jobseekers injecting $173 million to enhance employment services.
A two-year Pilot Employment Navigator Programme, with 11,000 places per year, will be launched which will offer a HK$5,000 cash incentive to jobseekers who find a job and keep it for at least three months. The government will also launch year-long training and internships for up to 500 young people with lower educational qualifications. Each intern will get HK$4,000 subsidies during the year on top of a government sponsored monthly salary of at least HK$4,500. The Government will also pump HK$500 million into the Language Fund to help upgrade proficiency in English and Chinese.
