The total number of job advertisements for professional positions grew by 20% from Q3 2013 to Q3 2014, showing an overall improvement in business confidence and demand for skilled candidates across the region. The Robert Walters Asia Job Index tracks job advertising volumes for professional positions across the leading job boards and national newspapers in China, Hong Kong, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore and South Korea.
According to Matthew Bennett, Managing Director—Greater China, Robert Walters, “Hong Kong business confidence has been on the rise throughout 2014 driven by an improving macro-economic picture. As a result, companies are more confident in hiring, leading to a higher volume of job advertisements across most sectors. The third quarter saw a continuation of this trend with the number of job advertisements increasing by 11% year-on-year.”
The Hong Kong market has seen particularly strong growth in IT job advertisements (20%), as companies have set up and invested in big data centres, and also accounting and finance advertisements (37%), as companies have needed to strengthen their internal audit efforts under the tightened regulatory environment.
